Our Story

Locally owned and operated in Dixon, Illinois, Precision Automotive has a history dating back to 1977. We are committed to providing dependable automotive and light-truck repair backed by honest communication, quality workmanship, and a personal approach to customer service. Our team uses digital vehicle inspections with pictures to help you understand your vehicle’s condition, along with detailed explanations and repair recommendations prioritized by importance. We use quality or OEM parts when appropriate and stand behind qualifying repairs with a 4-year/40,000-mile warranty. With strong diagnostic and electrical repair capabilities, we work to identify problems accurately and provide solutions you can trust.

My name is Ben Kingry, and I was born and raised right here in Dixon, Illinois, surrounded by a loving and supportive family. Growing up, I enjoyed school, sports, family vacations, and all the usual adventures of childhood, but my interest in automotive repair began early. My dad still tells stories about the projects taking place in our garage, from repairing snowblowers and lawnmowers to working on a go-kart I begged to have.

Automotive repair was also part of my family history. My grandfather, Bob Chinouth, owned and operated Bear Wheel Alignment at the southern point of Galena and Peoria Avenues in Dixon. Hearing stories about his business helped inspire me, and I knew from a young age that automotive repair was the career I wanted to pursue.

In high school, I attended the Whiteside Area Vocational Center, now the Whiteside Area Career Center. I am especially grateful to my automotive instructor, Mark Schafer, whose teaching and encouragement had a lasting influence on me. At the beginning of my senior year, I approached Bob Fassler about a part-time job at Precision Automotive. Bob had owned and operated the shop for more than 40 years, and I will always be thankful that he took a chance on me.

After graduating, I attended WyoTech in Laramie, Wyoming. I later moved to Greeley, Colorado, where I worked for Midas and Big O Tires. Those experiences taught me the importance of completing repairs correctly and efficiently while communicating honestly and clearly with customers.

I returned to Dixon in August 2013 and began working with Bob at Precision Automotive again. Bob built the business on integrity, honesty, and quality—values he passed on to me and that remain at the heart of our shop today. As Bob approached retirement, I spoke with him about purchasing Precision Automotive. In December 2019, that dream became a reality.

Although my automotive journey brought me to Precision Automotive, this is truly our business. My wife, Mackenzie, and I operate it together. She is an essential part of the shop, helping manage the office, support our customers, and keep the business moving forward every day. We are proud to be raising our two sons, Silas and Sivic, in the same community that helped shape us. My dad, Greg, remains involved as well, helping with bookkeeping and continuing the family spirit behind the business.

Today, we lead a dedicated team providing dependable automotive and light-truck repair. Our services include routine maintenance, brake service, oil changes, tire service, diagnostics, electrical repair, pre-purchase inspections, and more. Through digital inspections, clear explanations, and repair prioritization, we help customers make informed decisions about their vehicles.
